Employee-owned, ARA Building Services has a long and proud history providing building maintenance and construction services, with our foundations dating back to 1980.

ARA Building Services provides clients across Australia with the reassurance of a professional process, personal attention and long-term, turnkey building solutions.

ARA Building Services works closely with other ARA Group companies across Australia and New Zealand to provide clients with building maintenance services as well as a turnkey building solution.

With a 24/7 help desk, ARA Building Services provides clients with a single point of contact and co-ordinates the right services, either from our extensive in-house team or a team of capable subcontractors. Our in-house team of more than 130 staff consists of a diverse range of specialists – electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, tilers, and cabinet makers. Each staff member prides themselves on providing clients with reliable services and extensive industry knowledge and experience. For projects requiring multiple disciplines, ARA Building Services has the capability to offer all facility services in-house and provide a seamless solution tailored to meet the requirements of each client.

Our history

ARA Building Services has a long and proud history.

Growing organically working with ARA Group sister companies as well as by acquiring successful businesses and focussing on providing clients with safety, quality and risk management, ARA Building Services now comprises more than 130 employees in 12 locations across the country.

With a 24/7 help desk and one point of contact for each client, we work together to provide clients with true in-house, turnkey building solutions.

Timeline

   1980

Thermoscan is established in Brisbane providing specialist consulting thermography services.

   2005

The ARA Group establishes ARA Building Services to complete ARA Group services. ARA Building Services provides all building repairs and construction work to the residential, commercial and industrial client sectors.

  2015

The ARA Group acquires Taylors Building Solutions and MDP Group Building Rejuvenation, a dedicated team of builders specialising in remedial repairs and restoration work.  

   1996

ISM Interiors & Lockin Lockers is established in Melbourne providing high quality commercial and architectural joinery.

   2006

Intact Group is established in Sydney to provide full-service property maintenance services for large facilities businesses. 

  2019

The ARA Group acquires Thermoscan, the leading specialist consulting thermography service dedicated to preventative maintenance services such as electrical and mechanical condition monitoring, power factor correction unit testing and detailed thermography reports.

   2001

The ARA Group is established.

   2007

ARA Building Services first works with other ARA Group company Monarch Renlita to install and service residential, commercial and industrial doors and retail enclosures.

  2020

The ARA Group acquires ISM Interiors & Lockin Lockers, specialists in custom joinery and furniture for commercial fit-outs and tailormade locker spaces for end of trip facilities.

   2002

The ARA Group acquires Monarch Renlita, but continues to run the company separately until 2013.

  2014

The ARA Group acquires Lexicom Constructions, specialists in commercial industrial and retail fit-outs, into ARA Building Services.

  2023

The ARA Group acquires Intact Group, a multi skilled property maintenance provider for many of Australia’s leading businesses in the commercial, retail, government and education sectors.

Our people

Tony Murr

Managing Director

Tony Murr is the highly skilled Managing Director of ARA Building Services and has more than 30 years’ experience in the building and construction industry. With 20 years in senior management roles at ARA Building Services, Tony has extensive experience in leading his team and an exceptional knowledge base to create innovative solutions for clients and grow all aspects of the business. Tony progressed his trade career from the ground up as a building apprentice through to onsite management before moving into senior management roles. During his trade career, Tony worked on many major developments including new wet concrete construction and large high-rises before specialising in remedial construction. Tony lives and breathes building and construction and continues to enhance his education and knowledge to remain up to date with best practice allowing him to best support his team. Leading ARA Building Services to the dynamic and progressive organisation it is today, Tony prides himself on his communication skills and his ability to develop sustainable relationships with his sales, operations and financial team, clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders across the country. In his role, Tony also works closely with the ARA Group corporate team to strategically select specialised companies for acquisition that complement the existing ARA Building Services business and manage the entire acquisition process.

Nathan Dale

Director of Multi Trade

Nathan is an experienced executive with more than 15 years as a CEO. Founder and Director of Intact Group, ARA Building Services’ most recent acquisition, Nathan is now Director of Multi Trade for ARA Building Services. Growing the Intact Group business from the ground up, Nathan has received recognition through the Telstra Business Awards as NSW Business of the Year and Australian Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the Australian Small Business Awards. An advocate for diversity and inclusion, Nathan is Chair of The Primary Club, a charity whose fundamental aim is to give people with disabilities the opportunity to experience the joy and exhilaration that comes from any form of physical activity. Other passions include animal conservation and cricket – Nathan combines the two with “Last Male Standing”, a privately funded annual event helping to build awareness, enhance rhino conservation and provide physical education to the local community in Kenya.

Kelly Alcorn

General Manager, ARA Thermoscan

Kelly has more than 25 years’ financial and operations management experience and is an expert user in a number of financial and CRM systems. Commencing her career in a small accounting firm in Christchurch, she moved as finance and office manager into the advertising industry which took her across New Zealand. After moving to Australia, Kelly worked as a financial controller and office manager across various companies reporting directly to company directors. Commencing with Thermoscan in 2010 as a part-time bookkeeper, Kelly quickly moved into the role of Operations Manager. In 2015, Kelly took over the reigns as Thermoscan’s General Manager. During her time with Thermoscan, Kelly has onboarded three new acquisitions to the business and has also steered the business through the process of joining the ARA Group.

Matthew Currie

National Maintenance Manager

Matthew has more than 20 years’ experience in both the facilities and construction industries. Early in his career, Matt owned and operate a national multi-trade business with more than 150 staff. Acquired by the ARA Group for the ARA Property Services business in 2018, Matt joined the ARA Group and moved across to the ARA Building Services business in 2020. Since this move, ARA Building Services has seen year on year growth with outstanding results. A self-starter, Matt has built his skills and knowledge across many sectors including industrial, commercial, retail and more recently the public transport sector. Matt has a strong ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion – a skill that sets ARA Building Services apart and ensures future success.

David Loon

National Account Manager

David has more than 20 years’ experience in the building and client management industry. In the role of ARA Building Services National Account Manager since 2010, David has been managing maintenance services across multiple regions of Australia for ARA clients such as CBA, Suncorp, Huawei, Metro Trains, JLL and CBRE. He has deep understanding of how multiple services work together in a built environment, including mechanical, electrical, fire, and hydraulics services. With the ability to manage numerous contractors and technicians to work in harmony, he excels at consistently delivering quality results to clients.

Wesley Kilby

Account Manager

Wesley has more than 22 years’ experience in general management roles for large service companies delivering technical and management services to facilities across a number of commercial and government portfolios. Wesley joined ARA Building Services in 2008 as State Manager in Victoria and has worked together to with the team to grow the business both locally and nationally. Wesley has extensive expertise in managing large teams and successfully delivering maintenance, repairs and projects across all building services. He also has outstanding skills in working with clients to establish long term asset management plans and arrangements that balance the performance requirements of users and owners of the facilities being maintained.

Annlouise Michels

HSEQ Manager

Annlouise has more than seven years’ experience in the facilities maintenance and the safety, quality and environmental management industry. Joining ARA Building Services as Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator in 2016 and now HSEQ Manager. Annlouise drives workplace health and safety, quality assurance and environmental management for ARA Building Services’ multiple locations across of Australia and is instrumental in the success of the organisation’s compliance management approach. With a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Behavioural Sciences and a Diploma of Work, Health and Safety, Annlouise has a strong academic background and an in-depth knowledge and experience in health safety, environmental and quality assurance, with a high standard of onsite safety practices.

Russell Lindsay

Financial Controller

Russell commenced as ARA Building Services’ Financial Controller in 2013 and has recently completed a Master of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of New South Wales. With an undergraduate degree in Applied Science, Russell spent almost 20 years in the fitness industry and managed his own franchise personal training business before moving into finance. Russell studied a Diploma in Accounting before commencing with ARA Building Services. During his time with ARA Building Services, Russell has grown both personally and professionally, and has enjoyed being a part of the tremendous growth of ARA Building Services, with many business acquisitions adding to the challenge.

Terry Kranidis

Operations Manager

Terry has more than 40 years’ experience in the building and construction industry and has been working with the ARA Building Services team since 2014. Over his extensive career, Terry has held diverse roles ranging from fit out, insurance, restorations, facility management and remedial. Terry is a qualified licenced builder and has a broad range of knowledge and a list of qualifications such as an accredited building consultant with the Master Builders’ Association, a Certificate IV in Building with the Master Builders Association of NSW, Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery, and a IICRC Certificate (Institute of Inspection Cleaning & Restoration Registrant). Terry is known in the industry for many strengths including his organisational skills, as well as his effectiveness and efficiency in delivering projects on time and budget. Currently running Sydney Olympic Park as well as Western Sydney University contracts, Terry has earned great respect from all clients and colleagues through his easy-going nature and ability to develop and maintain long term relationships.

Director of Fit-out

With 45 years in the fitout/refurbishment sector, Gary has a wealth of knowledge and a history of repeat clients. Since ARA Group acquired Lexicom Constructions in which Gary was the Managing Director, he has been the driving force of all of ARA Building’s projects. Gary has the loyal backing of his trades team who have been working together for 10+ years which he attributes towards his success in the Building and Construction Industry.

Managing projects up to $5M and working with clients as JLL, GOLDMAN SACHS, CBA, SUNCORP, WESTFUND and CMFEU, his understanding of the Built environment comes from his years of experience on site. With his logical approach in developing programs and his ability to plan and execute, projects are always delivered on time every time. With Gary’s hands on approach, he oversees all live projects and bases himself on site to manage the quality and performance on all ARA projects. With the reputation of success known throughout the industry, his honest approach and clear communication has built a long list of repeat loyal customers.

Vic Zaitounian

Engineering Manager

Vic is a NSW Licensed Builder and qualified Engineer with 15 years’ experience in all aspects of the Building, Remedial and insurance industry. Vic has proven leadership skills and a strong technical background. He has proven to be capable of running multiple projects simultaneously and experienced at managing site teams and subcontractors, planning and co-ordinating works and equipment, estimating and ensuring compliance with WHS requirements. Vic possesses strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and liaise with clients and management stakeholders at all levels. Through performing roles of Project Manager in a multitude of projects over the past 11 years, Vic has acquired a deep knowledge of all facets of construction works, with strong attention to detail and a successful track record in completing projects on time and on budget.

Dusko Dragicevic

Project Manager

Dusko is an accomplished builder and project manager. A member of the ARA team for over a decade, Dusko has been pivotal to many significant capital projects. Dusko has extensive experience in managing projects involving the hospitality industry and high traffic sites. A highlight of his career was his role as the Lead Project Manager for the high profile redevelopment of King Street Wharf. On this project Dusko oversaw the $15M remedial rebuild of an active and tenanted site affecting commercial, retail and residential tenants. Dusko excels at stakeholder management and is effective in communicating project plans while dealing with multiple live challenges and meeting client’s strict deadlines and budgets.

Matt Cox

Director of Insurance Building

Working in the construction industry since 1990, Matt started his career working for commercial building companies London, UK. He then progressed from a site foreman of civil works to a site/project manager of commercial building projects both in the UK and Sydney Australia.
In 2006 Matt was contracted by a national insurance builder to manage their first interstate CAT event. This provided Matt with his first exposure to the insurance rebuilding industry. Matt saw an opportunity in the market for an insurance builder that really cared about delivering quality work and building strong relationships with both clients and the end home/property owner.

Matt grew his business UBS, acquired by ARA Building Services in 2023, from a small Sydney-only business to now servicing NSW and will be expanding into ACT and QLD in 2024 – with over $130 million revenue completed to date.

Greg Farrugia

Construction Manager

Prior to UBS being acquired by ARA Building Services, Greg joined UBS as a junior supervisor with 6 years’ experience in shopfitting and joinery within the commercial building industry. Greg worked his way up to now manage the construction and restoration division of the company.
Greg has completed his builder’s licence and has become a class 2 building practitioner who is highly trained in safety on building and construction sites. He is driven by the desire to give other people the opportunity he has in growing a successful company and seeing it achieve milestone after milestone.

Greg is a keen soccer player, with 30 years at the same club some say it’s a love affair. He is now coaching his son’s soccer team as well as playing every Saturday.

ARA Building Services has a dedicated team of workplace health and safety professionals with many years of experience in multiple industry types. This team deals with all aspects of work health and safety, quality and environmental management throughout ARA Building Services, and is always available to assist on all projects to ensure we deliver the highest safety standards. 

Safety Management – AS 4801 and ISO 45001

ARA Building Services is dedicated to providing an effective occupational health and safety management system. Through the ARA Group, our system complies with AS/NZS 4801-2001 and ISO 45001-2018: Occupational Health and Safety management systems and are accredited to this standard by Global-Mark Pty Ltd. 

Quality Management – ISO 9001

We offer the highest quality management with a strong focus on our clients, our process approach and continual improvement. Through the ARA Group, our management system complies with AS/NZS ISO 9001-2015: Quality Management Systems and are accredited to this standard by Global-Mark Pty Ltd. 

Environmental Management – ISO 14001

We take the management of our environmental responsibility very seriously and take this responsibility into account across every building and maintenance project. Our management system complies with AS/NZS ISO 14001-2015: Environmental Management Systems.
